Atlantic County Institute of Technology
For more than 30 years the Atlantic County Institute of Technology has prepared students with the skills required in order to enter the job market or pursue further education at a higher level. ACIT is the most complete educational institute in Atlantic County; Therefore ACIT is the education facility of choice. The bulk of ACIT students consist of high school students enrolling in the various academy programs. These students can choose from 21 programs of which 4 are academy courses. The students receive their tasks at 1 of the 8 county high schools, while career technical training is taught at ACIT. In addition more than 1000 adults are enrolled in the ACIT Evening school programs. Adult scholars participate in all programs, full and part time.
Based on a large campus that covers approximately 58 acres, the academy is located at the center of the county. Constructed in 1974 and renovated in 1994, the school upgraded its programs and added new ones in order to match the needs of today’s work floor environment. The campus also houses the Atlantic County Alternative High School.
In order to further facilitate the growth of current programs and the addition of more classrooms a gymnasium and other requirements for today’s programs in the shape of a $40m building project is being completed. Once completed, the shared time programs will be transformed into full time ones.
ACIT has been offering full time career academies since 2000. These courses also include a complete technical program, besides the academic curriculum, in order to prepare the students for college or the work place.
The Academy of Culinary Arts/Hospitality Management was the first academy to be offered, providing students with the proper culinary skills, professionally. Information technology was the second academy launched a year later. The third was the Academy of Health Sciences and finally, The Academy of Math, Engineering and Science.
The high standards of the programs and the dedication of its staff show in the successful HSPA scores, which are consistently above 94 percent.In late 2008 ACIT was certified as a NCLB Blue ribbon school, and is one of eight to ever receive this designation.ACIT is rated one of the best among 41 high schools in the United States, awarded with a bronze or higher ranking.
The goal of ACIT is not only to offer education, but to ensure its students are well prepared to take advantage of further education through nationally recognized programs.
